Hopefully, our summer will start soon. I am a dragon boat paddler and it has been very, very cold and windy almost every time we have gone out and sessions have been cancelled due to weather. Hopefully too many of our members didn’t lose their plants to the frost after the May long weekend. As I write this (June 24th), the weather is beautiful.
Our Mother’s day tea and fashion show on May 7th was a resounding success. Everyone had a fabulous time. Thank you to Season’s Dufferin for hosting and to Off the Hook and Red Stone Clothing for providing the clothes. Thank you to our models and door prize donations.
We are pleased to announce that our Chapter was successful in receiving a grant application from the Seniors Community Grant program. The Seniors Community Grant Program supports initiatives by not-for-profit community groups that help seniors stay connected, active and involved in their community by encouraging greater social inclusion, volunteerism and community engagement.
This will assist us in providing these upcoming events to our members.

Our volunteers have organized these events at different times of the day, different locations and days of the week. We have had a cast of fabulous speakers. We advertise them on our CARP website http://www.carp.ca/groups/ch39/forum/ on FaceBook – www.facebook.com/carpbbq, on LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/groups/CARP-Greater-Bay-Quinte-Chapter-3628264, in the local newspapers and on our local radio stations. We have over 2200 members in our Greater Bay of Quinte Area Chapter. Sadly, we only have a handful of people who attend these events.
Please do something for me? Please send me an e-mail at [email protected] and let me know what topics of interest you have; what location you desire; what day of the week you prefer and what time of day works best for you.
Our Greater Bay of Quinte Area Chapter #39 is full of educated, experienced, talented people who care about community. You are passionate about causes. And you are willing – even yearning – to contribute your expertise and skills to our organization. You are looking for meaningful, time-specific projects. You crave opportunities to show off your talents.
It’s time for non profit leaders to begin to think differently. It’s time to embrace the competitive advantage of our geographic area: our ability to engage talented people and pay them with meaning (we don’t have any dollarsJ).
It’s time to redefine volunteerism.
It’s time to challenge conventional thinking in our area.
Let’s stop bemoaning our lack of resources and start thinking about how to ignite the passion and talent in our community. Let’s engage the abundance of talented people that are yearning to work with our organization.
Together, let’s replace scarcity with possibility.

We are looking for local sponsors
Our chapter is one of 60 across Canada offering educational programs, events and other meaningful opportunities to our members. Topics include enhancing their health & wellness, preparing for retirement, advocating for health and pension reform as well as connecting older adults with technology.
Currently, there are 2200 CARP members in our area and while they already reap benefits from CARP’s Affinity Partners, we encourage local businesses to engage with our chapter to build a new vision of aging in our community.
There are many opportunities for you to engage with our members through promotion and advertising on our electronic newsletters as well as our chapter webpage on www.carp.ca/bbq and by participating at our open, public meetings.
We have planned many exciting events in 2015. Hope to see you there.
